Clinical Experience, Dental Spanish & see Peru
The Medical Elective Network has teamed up with the National University of Trujillo to provide a dental elective that includes
• Clinical Experience at a busy University Clinic
• Community Health Campaigns
• Spanish language Programme (Dental & General)
The clinical element of the programme takes place at the Trujillo National University’s School of Odontology. Elective students spend time working in the school and its clinic, having the opportunity to gain experience in all areas of dentistry.
Whilst at the clinic each elective student will be paired with one local student with whom they will work, under teaching supervision, during clinical experience. You also have the option of attending lectures with local students.
Dental Spanish Program
The Dental Spanish Program takes place at our Elective Centre. This 60 hour language Program is a mix of general Spanish and the dental Spanish term and vocabulary required to work in a dental care environment. Areas include oral anatomy, take patient histories and dental procedures.
Class sizes are small, to ensure rapid learning, with a maximum of only 6 students.
Dental Health Care Campaigns
Elective students participate in our free health campaigns. We presently work with Madre de Cristo Primary School. A school of 600 children aged between 4 and 12 located in La Esperanza, one of the more deprived areas of Trujillo. This on going campaign includes oral health care advice for the children and their parents, as well are free dental health services for all of the children and some parents.
The 4 week elective programme is based in Trujillo on the Pacific coast of Peru. A city of 800,000 people, the city has a great climate, beaches and a rich colonial and pre-colonial history. The city also boasts 5 universities and a thriving nightlife.
Students taking the elective are accommodated in comfortable family homestays or at our electives centre. Daily private transport and mobile phones are also provided.
